The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Friends of Saint Nicholas remembered the 20th anniversary of September 11, 2001, with a memorial service and the inaugural lighting of the Saint Nicholas National Shrine on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 7:45 EST.

Our Metropolis's first-ever Deacons Educational Meeting is scheduled for September 28th-29th, at the Diakonia Retreat Center. This gathering is meant for both Deacons and their Proistamenoi to come together, so that each may gain the most beneficial knowledge concerning the valuable service of the Diaconate to the sacramental life of the Church. I am pleased to write to you as final preparations are underway for the 2021 Metropolis of Atlanta Clergy-Laity Assembly. Though the now-virtual Assembly  will look different this fall, I know our organizing committee is doing their utmost to provide an experience, which is not only a safe alternative, but just as productive and enjoyable as those in year's past.

The Metropolis is ever mindful of the changing situation concerning COVID-19 and its Delta variant. As your Metropolitan, I am also aware that public health guidelines are subject to change. As late as last week, I have encouraged our communities to determine their procedures concerning masks by comparing them against any recent updates to your national, state & local health codes.

The collapse of the Champlain Tower in Surfside, Florida is a tragedy that has saddened a nation, and the world, but nowhere more so than the community of Miami, Florida. As of this writing, upwards of 50 individuals lost their lives in the collapse, with well over a hundred men, women, and children still unaccounted for. In the midst of such a shocking event, the country has also witnessed those brave volunteers who came together to search for survivors.

As we approach the end of a liturgical cycle and the beginning of a new Ecclesiastical year, it is only appropriate that our Metropolis of Atlanta continue the growth of the Body of Christ in a post-pandemic world. Therefore, His Eminence is pleased to announce that this year's Metropolis Clergy-Laity Assembly, will be held virtually on Friday September 17th & Saturday, September 18th. 

A Concert commemorating the participation of Cyprus in the Greek War of Independence was held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Marietta, GA.

On Saturday June 19th, St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church in St. Petersburg, FL hosted a cook out and Meet and Greet with His Grace Bishop Sebastian and the Tampa Bay Young Adult Leaders and Professionals group.

The Department of Religious Education of the Metropolis of Atlanta is proud to present a 5-week virtual study of the Gospel of John with Fr. Steve Dalber, Pastor Emeritus of St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, every Thursday, July 1 to July 29, 2021, from 7 to 8 PM.

His Eminence, Metropolitan Alexios, welcomed the Holy Unmercenaries Medical Society (HUMS) to the serene and picturesque Diakonia Retreat Center in Salem SC May 21-23, 2021 for their Fourth Annual Retreat.
