SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Saint Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine invites one and all to a Christmas Open House on Sunday, December 8, from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Guests will be able to tour the Shrine and its exhibits and the ornate chapel on the premises, as well as meet newly-assigned Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, the official representative of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America under whose jurisdiction the Shrine falls. Refreshments will be served. Guests are encouraged to bring canned and non-perishable food items for a collection to benefit local food pantries and depositories as we approach the Christmas holiday.

On Saturday, November 16, Bishop Sevastianos invited clergy and lay leaders from the Coastal Conference to meet at Holy Trinity Church in Columbia, Georgia to implement Metropolis goals and establish a conference calendar. His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios has asked His Grace to establish and build up our Metropolis' seven regional conferences. Thanks to all who participated today.

Welcome to the faithful stewards of the Metropolis of Atlanta serving as Vicars, Philoptochos Metropolis Board members, Metropolis Council members, Diakonia Retreat Center Board members, Metropolis Endowment Board members, and Archons. We expect more than 400 in attendance at our Archangel Michael Feast & Honors Banquet on Saturday, November 9 and look forward to our Hierarchical Liturgy at Annunciation Cathedral on Sunday, November 10th.

On October 20, we commemorate National Leadership 100 Sunday as we look forward to the Feast of Saint Iakovos on October 23. We give thanks to God for the generosity of the faithful members of Leadership 100 and celebrate the great achievements over 35 years of the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 Fund

The Holy Eparchial Synod of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America convened for their regular fall meeting, October 15-16, under the presidency of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America

At the end of September, His Grace Bishop Sevastianos made a Pastoral Visit to St. Nicholas Cathedral in Tarpon Springs, to welcome His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas, the newly enthroned Hierarch of Thyrateira & Great Britain. This weekened (September 21-22) Abbots and abbesses of 18 Sacred Monasteries of the Holy Archdiocese of America participated in the first ever Monastic Assembly of the Sacred Monasteries of the Holy Archdiocese of America, convened on the invitation of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, at the Sacred Monastery of Saint Nektarios in Roscoe, NY. In addition, the following hierarchs attended: their Eminences Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver, Alexios of Atlanta, Nathanael of Chicago, and their Graces Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, Apostolos of Medeia, and Bishop Ierotheos of Eukarpia, Abbot of the Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou. September 10-12, His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios was joined by Bishop Sevastianos and 75 clergy of the Metropolis of Atlanta. The three-day gathering at the Diakonia Retreat Center offered continuing education and important resources for Metropolis Clergy. It concluded with a Divine Liturgy in Panagia Chapel and remarks by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios in support of the ministry of our clergy and the 74 parishes of the Metropolis of Atlanta.

In 2018, the Holy Eparchial Synod, the Archdiocesan Council and the National Clergy Laity Congress approved a new set of procedures and requirements intended to improve safety for the children in all our Church programs. These very important “Policies for the Safety of Children and Youth” are and must be of urgent concern for all of us who work with children in every aspect of this Metropolis, including every parish and youth ministry. 

Even as we prepare to look ahead to the new opportunities granted to us by Almighty God, I am mindful of the difficulties faced by others throughout this world, specifically by those residents of the Bahamas, who have suffered such great devastation from Hurricane Dorian.

The venerable Metropolitan of Tyroloi and Serention, the most honorable Exarch of Thrace, Panteleimon (Rodopoulos), fell asleep today, August 7, shortly after 2 p.m., at the age of 90. The blessed Hierarch fell asleep peacefully at the Holy Monastery of Vlatades, of which he had been a longtime abbot, with his successor and spiritual son, Bishop Nikephoros of Amorion, at his side. The funeral service will take place on Friday, August 9, at 11 a.m. at the Monastery of the Vlatades, where he will be buried. Click to read in full.

The Holy Unmercenaries Medical Society (HUMS) met at the Diakonia Retreat Center May 17-19, 2019 for its third annual retreat, “Healing the Healer,” led by Dn. Dr. Stephen Muse.

AXIOS! On this feast day of St. Panteleimon, Archbishop Nikitas was enthroned as the hierarch and archpastor of the Greek Orthodox of Archdiocese of Thyrateira and Great Britain.   Metropolitan Alexios and numerous hierarchs, clergy and faithful were in attendance.
