A strong majority, thirty-eight, of the fifty-one canonical Orthodox Bishops in the United States of America began their two-day meeting today to discuss Orthodox Christian Unity in the country.

On Oct. 3, 2020, a beautiful and sun-filled day that can only be described as “Χαρα Θεου», a longtime dream became a reality. His Eminence, Metropolitan Alexios of the Holy Metropolis of Atlanta officiated an Agiasmo and a Groundbreaking ceremony for the site of the future St. Hermione Home.

Out of pastoral love and guidance, His Eminence has made the decision, in concert with the 2020 Clergy-Laity Congress, to forego Parish Council nominations and elections for the coming year (unless otherwise deemed necessary by the Metropolis of Atlanta).

Today we glory in Cross of the Lord, raising it on high in the Feast of Its Universal Exaltation. Truly, this is a marvel; for the love of God, which moved His Only-Begotten Son to willingly ascend such a cruel instrument of torture and death, utterly transforms it into the sign of victory over death.

As we enter this period of the new Ecclesiastical Year, the Metropolis turns its attention to those beautiful events: the Winter Youth Rally & Hellenic Dance Festival. Both WYR and HDF remain committed to safe environments for our Metropolis faithful to come together in fellowship, worship, and dance. Indeed, the Metropolis continues to closely monitor the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, in accordance with CDC, State and Federal Guidelines.

Presvytera Stavroula  (Lula) Hondras passed away peacefully at her home on July 25th at the age of 98 years old. Presvytera Lu was the beloved wife of the late Rev. John Hondras who passed away in 1988. Presvytera Lu was born on May 16, 1922 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where she and Father John were married in 1942

New York, NY – On July 23, 2020, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros met with President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence at the White House on the concerns of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese over the seizure and re-conversion of the Hagia Sophia into a mosque.

We, the Members of the Holy Eparchial Synod of Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, under the presidency of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, write to you in the power of the Holy Spirt in these anguished days when the Great Church of Christ, the Patriarchal Cathedral of Holy Wisdom, Ἁγία Σοφία, institutionalized for the past ninety years as a museum and world cultural monument, has been re-converted into a mosque. This egregious and unnecessary action has gravely wounded all Orthodox Christians, indeed all Christians around the world and all people of faith and good will.
