This weekened (September 21-22) Abbots and abbesses of 18 Sacred Monasteries of the Holy Archdiocese of America participated in the first ever Monastic Assembly of the Sacred Monasteries of the Holy Archdiocese of America, convened on the invitation of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, at the Sacred Monastery of Saint Nektarios in Roscoe, NY. In addition, the following hierarchs attended: their Eminences Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver, Alexios of Atlanta, Nathanael of Chicago, and their Graces Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, Apostolos of Medeia, and Bishop Ierotheos of Eukarpia, Abbot of the Sacred Patriarchal and Stavropegial Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou. September 10-12, His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios was joined by Bishop Sevastianos and 75 clergy of the Metropolis of Atlanta. The three-day gathering at the Diakonia Retreat Center offered continuing education and important resources for Metropolis Clergy. It concluded with a Divine Liturgy in Panagia Chapel and remarks by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios in support of the ministry of our clergy and the 74 parishes of the Metropolis of Atlanta.

The venerable Metropolitan of Tyroloi and Serention, the most honorable Exarch of Thrace, Panteleimon (Rodopoulos), fell asleep today, August 7, shortly after 2 p.m., at the age of 90. The blessed Hierarch fell asleep peacefully at the Holy Monastery of Vlatades, of which he had been a longtime abbot, with his successor and spiritual son, Bishop Nikephoros of Amorion, at his side. The funeral service will take place on Friday, August 9, at 11 a.m. at the Monastery of the Vlatades, where he will be buried. Click to read in full.

The Saint Maxim the Greek Institute, with the support of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopaidi, is introducing the ‘Evyenios Voulgaris’ Scholarship Programme. Evyenios Voulgaris (1716-1806) served as principal of the Athoniada School, which had been established by the Holy Monastery of Vatopaidi. In his day, he was the greatest and most important Greek scholar, a theologian, philosopher, polymath, a man of encyclopaedic learning, poet, Father and Shepherd of the Church and an influential teacher for the whole of Orthodoxy.
