APOLYTIKION - this is a short hymn celebrating the Feast or Saint commemorated on that day. They are considred to be some of the most ancient liturgical anthems.

MENAION - the name comes from the Greek word for month. There are 12 books; one for each month of the year, containing the liturgical parts of the daily services that are specific to the day.

KOINONIKON - appears to have been introduced in the Liturgy some time in the 4th century. This hymn varies according to the day of the week or feast, with the most commonly recognized one sung on Sundays - "Praise the Lord from the Heavens; praise Him in the Highest." (Psalm 148:1)
