Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Mobile, Alabama, held its annual Greek Festival on Thursday, October 17, through Sunday, October 20. Being on the Gulf Coast and having experienced hurricanes in the past, it was important for the Annunciation community to raise awareness of the need for hurricane relief for those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, along with His Grace Bishop Sevastianos of Zelon, responding rapidly to the need of the communities affected by these hurricanes, encouraged all of the parishes and Philoptochos chapters of the Metropolis of Atlanta to support the efforts of the National Hurricane Relief Fund for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, established by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America. Rev. Fr. Matthew Carter, proistamenos of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Mobile and Vicar of the Western Conference of the Metropolis of Atlanta, along with Dale Greenstein, the Parish Council President; Wayne Boutzale, the chairman of the annual Greek Festival; and Sarah Kalaris, the president of the local Philoptochos chapter, wanted to create an opportunity for the thousands of guests at their Greek Festival to offer their support for hurricane relief. Visitors to the annual Greek Festival in Mobile were asked at each transaction if they would like to leave a tip to support hurricane relief. Through their generosity, and by the grace of God, the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Mobile was able to raise $20,000 for the National Hurricane Relief Fund.
