November 2, 2022The 5th Annual Holy Unmercenary Medical Society (HUMS) retreat was held October 21-23, 2022 at the Diakonia Retreat Center in Salem SC. The retreat was well attended by physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals from across the Metropolis and participants from Virginia and Ohio as well. The retreat was coordinated and directed by the Society President Fr Dr Paul Tsahakis who has led HUMS since its inception in 2017. The theme this year was a study of the lives of the Holy Unmercenary Saints and specifically focusing on the virtues of Prayer, Faith and Patience.
Our retreat leaders were His Eminence, Metropolitan Alexios and His Grace, Bishop Sevastianos. Presentations were made by selected society members. In addition to worshiping together personal reflections on the role of Christ in our practices were given.
At the retreat a new Board of Directors was elected:
Dr. Dennis Kokenes, Dr. Greg Tarasidis, Dr. Gena Volas, Dr. Emmanuel Zervos, Dr. Andrew Asimos, Dr. Gus Gianakopoulos, Dr. Tim Patselas, Dr. Theo Karavokiros, Dr. George Harris.
Officers’ elections were held by the new board members and the new officers are: Dr. Dennis Kokenes – President Dr. Emmanuel Zervos – Vice President Dr. George Harris – Secretary Dr. Andrew Asimos – Treasurer.
HUMS plans to have the 2023 retreat in the fall again at the Diakonia Center.
