St. Christopher Hellenic Orthodox Church in Peachtree City, GA, marked its Parish Name Day today with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy presided by His Eminence Metropolitan Sevastianos of Atlanta, parish luncheon, and groundbreaking ceremony for its future church complex, celebrating both the spiritual and tangible growth of the parish.
The day began with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Sevastianos of Atlanta, joined by ten clergy from the Atlanta metro area and beyond, and attended by a full congregation of parishioners, supporters, and guests. The liturgical gathering reflected the fullness of the Church, with clergy, chantors, choir members, altar servers, and faithful united in prayer and worship.
A central image of the day was Christ the Sower, depicted on the epigonation worn by His Eminence, symbolizing seeds cast in faith and entrusted to God for growth. This image reflected the parish’s history, which traces its beginnings to October 26, 2003, when Former Metropolitan Alexios blessed Fr. George Tsahakis to establish the mission and begin worship services at the Fayette Family YMCA. From those early beginnings, the parish has grown into a vibrant community and is now stewarding ten acres of land dedicated to its future church home.
Concelebrating clergy conveyed the unity of the local Church. The liturgical celebration underscored the Orthodox understanding that the Church is fully revealed when the faithful gather with their Bishop to celebrate the Eucharist, affirming unity in Christ and apostolic continuity.
Metropolitan Sevastianos exhorted the faithful to envision the future impact of this new church complex and its potential to guide the faithful by carrying Christ in their hearts as St. Christopher the Martyr did in his witness of our Lord.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the parish gathered for a fellowship luncheon, providing an opportunity for shared thanksgiving, reflection, and community life among parishioners and guests of all ages.
The day-long celebration concluded with a groundbreaking ceremony and site blessing on the parish property. Clergy and faithful assembled outdoors as Metropolitan Sevastianos offered prayers for God’s blessing upon the work ahead. His blessing of the physical foundation stands as the culmination of years of prayer, generosity, and perseverance, marking an important milestone in the parish’s ongoing life and mission.
As St. Christopher Church looks to the future, the day served as a reminder that the Church is built not only of stone and structure, but of faithful people united in worship, service, and trust in God, who alone grants lasting growth. Fr. George Tsahakis, Chancellor of the Metropolis of Atlanta who serves St. Christopher Church ended his remarks with the hope that this new church rise not for our glory, but as a beacon for generations yet unborn, who will one day say: "They loved us before they ever knew us, they loved us with their hearts!" To God be the glory—now and forever. Amen!”
